UNDER THE KNIFE

…(extract from article):

“The high demand for procedures has made it a lucrative business in countries like Malaysia and Thailand. There's even an Australian company which has been set up as a booking agent to facilitate surgery and hotel stays.

The Melbourne-based company, Gorgeous Getaways, was set-up by Louise Cogan, who spotted a niche in the market.

In Malaysia she has a team of about 20 who offer clients the red carpet treatment when they go over for surgery.

But for most people, it's the price tag that is luring them abroad.
Ms Cogan said surgery in Malaysia was less than half the price than in Australia and patients got a holiday too.

``There was a need for this service because so many people were doing it themselves on the internet, not knowing if the surgeons were qualified,'' she said.

Ms Cogan said the `cheaper' overseas rates meant cosmetic surgery was no longer for the rich and famous.

``Most of our clients are average middle-class women and men wanting to improve themselves. Some want to get rid of their tummy or are 50 but want to look 40 years old,'' she said.
